Numero – Pygmalion CD
We already warned a few months ago with the compilation Cómete Madrid (BCore, 05) that the state capital was experiencing a stupendous moment of creative boiling within punk-hardcore circles. Among names as attractive as Doss, Ginferno, The Joe-K Plan or Ainara Legardon, Numero presented us with a sound so traditionally associated with BCore as the one that moves between the emocore of Engine Down or Sunny Day Real Estate and the rudeness of Helmet or Tool. Formed in 2002, their homonymous debut demo from 2004 made them win the Demoscopia contest sponsored by Mondo Sonoro magazine in its 2005 edition. With that injection of morale and increasing acceptance by the public and the press, they lock themselves in the Ultramarinos Costa Brava studios (Tokyo Sex Destruction, Nueva Vulcano, Sisa) to, at the hands of Santi Garcia and Xavi Navarro, shape their long-awaited first album Pygmalion. Excellent representatives of a generation of bands born with an eye on the previous generation (that of Standstill, A Room With A View, Lisabö, or Maine), with an overwhelming mastery of instrumental technique and a wide range of influences and ancestry. North American, their combination of post-grunge and post-hardcore brings them closer to their contemporaries Persona, Arkanoid or Raydibaum. Their conscientiously structured yet passionate sound, with a sense of gravity typical of 90s bands and the synthesis and freshness of today's indie, the instrumental precision of post-rock and the warmth and vocal depth make their ten songs an excellent debut album, based on his long live experience and the good work of some committed and meticulous musicians.
